A primary goal in writing this book was to create a text that appeals to the student reader while still offering solid content. Through market research we learned what worked best from the previous edition, what could be improved and what could be added to accomplish this goal effectively and efficiently. The outcome is the following list of pedagogical elements that appear in every chapter of Organisational Behaviour: A Global Perspective.
  • ‘Learning objectives’ and ‘Planning ahead’ provide a focus on key themes (tying them to the major headings of the text and the chapter summary) and a broad overview of the chapter content.
  • ‘OB in action’ boxes explore how world organisations manage the particular issues of a chapter, providing a practical example of the application of theory.
  • ‘Key terms’ boxes highlight the most important and relevant concepts in each chapter. All key terms are defined in the margins.
  • ‘The effective manager’ boxes offer practical tips and action guidelines on topics relevant to skills development and career readiness.
  • ‘World digest’ boxes amplify the global perspective of the book by looking at real-world organisations and issues at the forefront of organisational behaviour.
  • ‘Ethical perspective’ boxes examine the ethical issues that can arise in an organisational setting.
  • ‘Chapter review’ sections provide a useful end-of-chapter study guide, including a summary, essay questions that link to the learning objectives at the beginning of each chapter, and suggested reading to extend the theory under discussion.
  • ‘Critical thinking’ exercises help develop and refine skills relating to the concepts and issues under discussion in each chapter.
  • ‘Management development portfolio’ sections consist of exercises, assessment and research projects to allow students to integrate thematic concepts across the chapters in a part.
  • The ‘Case studies’ section provides situational and real-life cases from around the globe. These case studies enhance student understanding by allowing analysis of the issues in relation to the concepts and theories raised in the book.
